Toric Contact Lenses
Besides long- and short-sightedness there is another visual impairment, which may be due to an irregularity of the cornea, a so-called astigmatism. Astigmatism is a refractive error meaning that rays of light from an object aren’t bundled into a single point on the retina but are observed as a blurred line. Corneal irregularities are mostly inherited. Small irregularities often go unnoticed, however, a larger astigmatism manifests itself in a heavy distortion.
Spherical contact lenses can correct this distortion only partially. Toric contact lenses are able to correct the astigmatism as well as long- and short-sightedness. Through a prism on the lower area of the contact lens and the automatic blink of the wearer, the toric contact lens can always be adjusted in such a way that the astigmatism will be corrected. For an ideal fitting of the contact lens to your eye, you will also need a prescription for cylinder and axis from your optician. Lensplaza offers toric contact lenses for daily, two-week and monthly use.
Especially Important: The Correct Care of Your Lenses
Whether you choose soft, rigid or multifocal contact lenses, hygiene and cleaning should not be neglected. To ensure that no pollutants or deposits develop on the contact lens surface, thorough contact lens care is crucial. However, the more often contact lenses are disposed of and exchanged for new contact lenses, the less care effort is required. Correct contact lens care is of immense importance and a selection of different contact lens care products can be found in the solutions-catalog.
