Soft contact lenses
The modern way to wear contact lenses
Today, soft contact lenses are generally preferred over previously common hard ones. No wonder: soft lenses offer many advantages, and there is a large selection of different products on offer. The perfect contact lenses thus exist to satisfy everyone's needs.
What are soft contact lenses?
Soft contact lenses are disposable lenses made from a flexible material. To make soft contact lenses, hydrogel or advanced silicone hydrogel is used. While hard contact lenses are made of dimensionally stable plastic, soft contact lenses feel more like jelly: they are more pliable and slightly moist. With a diameter of about 14 millimetres, they are slightly larger than hard contact lenses. They thus cover the entire cornea and are securely held in place by the upper and lower margins of the eyelid.
Advantages of soft contact lenses
Soft contact lenses adapt perfectly to the shape of your cornea thanks to their flexible material. In conjunction with their pliant, supple material, they thus offer great wearability, which you can normally enjoy after just a short time of getting used to them. Modern, oxygen-permeable silicone hydrogels allow the eyes to breathe perfectly. Due to their special material and slightly larger diameter, these soft contact lenses adhere securely to the eye's tear film and do not slip, not even during sports activities. Thanks to the soft contact lenses' flattened edge design, the eyelids can glide effortlessly over the lens surface without unpleasant friction.
Who are soft lenses suitable for?
Due to their great wearability, soft contact lenses are very suitable for people with sensitive eyes. Since they are disposed of more frequently, taking care of them is less complicated. Soft lenses sit very firmly in the eyes and are highly recommended for those who wear contact lenses and have a modern and active lifestyle.
How do you look after soft contact lenses?
How you look after soft contact lenses depends primarily on how often they are changed. Daily lenses are particularly simple: they are changed daily and therefore offer a high standard of hygiene without any care. Monthly lenses should be rinsed daily with a suitable contact lens care product. For soft contact lenses, you can use all-in-one solutions such as Opti-Free Puremoist or peroxide solution products such as Aosept Plus Hydraglyde or EasySept. Keeping soft lenses in water is not a good idea; conventional tap or mineral water contains bacteria that can settle on the lenses and cause dangerous eye infections. Always use a special contact lens fluid for storage. You should also avoid storing soft contact lenses in hard lens fluid – when buying a product, make sure that the storage fluid is suitable for soft lenses.
What kind of soft contact lenses are there?
If you want to buy soft lenses, there is a wide selection on offer: the comfortable small visual aids are available as daily, weekly or monthly lenses, for myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism or presbyopia. Think about having an initial fitting done by your contact lens optician before you order your soft contact lenses!
Soft daily lenses: if you want to buy soft daily lenses, check out the Dailies AquaComfort Plus lenses with their three-phase moisturising complex or the Proclear 1-Day lenses with their special PC technology.
Soft weekly lenses: those who prefer changing their lenses every two weeks can, for example, use the Acuvue Oasys lenses, which stand out for their high oxygen permeability of 147 Dk/t.
Soft monthly lenses: there are also several high-quality products to choose from for those who want to order soft monthly lenses. The Biofinity lenses, for example, are very popular with their Aquaform technology. Alternatively, take a look at the Air Optix plus Hydraglyde or the Proclear monthly lenses.
